Stereo Zoo – a homage to the past, present and future of Onehunga
Commissioned by the Onehunga Community Centre/ Auckland City Council, Stereo Zoo was initiated by creative educator and artist Grit Becker-Fainu.
With an emphasis on community participation as well as art making, children and families of Onehunga learned significant historical information about Auckland’s first zoo.
The children took part in a 2 hour long workshop, and inspired by what they learned created the drawings of zoo animals, which now make up the interactive 3D installation. Stereo Zoo is one of a kind, it reflects and preserves Onehunga’s unique regional history, and can be viewed at the Onehunga Community Centre during opening hours. See staff at the library and centre for 3D glasses.
